242pp , ABOUT THE AUTHOR :: Hernán Cortés Monroy Pizarro Altamirano (Medellín , Badajoz , Extremadura, Spain , 1485 Castilleja de la Cuesta , Sevilla, December 2, 1547 ) , Spanish conquistador of the Aztec Empire (now central Mexico ) , first Marquis of the Valley of Oaxaca, governor and captain general of New España.Adelantándose it will cease Diego Velázquez, Cortes armed abruptly departed the port of Santiago de Cuba on November 18 , 1518. As was scarce of provisions , I had to stock up on these in the port of Trinidad and elsewhere. Finally, on February 10, 1519 , the fleet left the coast of Cuba . That was armed in 11 ships, with 518 infants, 16 riders, 13 musketeers , 32 crossbowmen , 110 sailors and 200 Indians and blacks as auxiliary troops. They had 32 horses, 10 bronze cannons and 4 falconetes . For captains were going Alonso Hernández Portocarrero (which deliver later Indian Dona Marina) , Alonso Davila, Diego de Ordaz , Francisco de Montejo , Francisco de Morla, Francisco de Saucedo, Juan de Escalante , Juan Velazquez de Leon ( relative of the Governor ) Cristobal de Olid , Gonzalo de Sandoval and Pedro de Alvarado. Many of these were veterans of the war in Italy. By main pilot Anton de Alaminos was experienced in the two previous expeditions Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba and Juan de Grijalva .
