Marillier takes the well known fairy tale(or maybe only well known to me) of the sister who must weave shirts for her brothers without a sound so that they can turn from swans to human again ..but elaborates on this tale. It is not the original redone, but it surely took inspiration from it. Marillier's prose is beautiful. The reader cries with Sorcha in her pain, and aches with her in her inability to communicate to those she loves..it is a very touching story, and of course has all the best fairy tales in it.
Marillier draws you in the tale of Sevenwaters in her first book of the series, and the intensity continues throught the third book. Constantly intertwining legends and original ideas, this book is just as intense as the others in her series, yet maintains the fairy tale setting that attracted me to the books in the first place.
