Leece (United Kingdom) (2007/02/10): A very good read, mxing ancient religios relics, the magical properties of gold. A really good story.
Hope (United Kingdom) (2007/11/19): I found the villains sometimes rather over the top, and some of the descriptions of injuries and torture to be a bit more than I felt I wanted to know. Otherwise there was much amusement and excitement to be had from this book. Treasure quests, rummaging through libraries and museums, gallivanting round Europe and Egypt in pursuit of clues and particular relics, trying to avoid sabotage. The stuff about m-gold was all very interesting and made for a good story, and some novel effects. The puzzle solving was fun. There was a moment towards the end of the book where I thought, "oh, damn, I wanted to know more about that", but I suspect if the plot had gone in a different direction, finding material to plausibly put in that space would have been a problem. James Rollins, as I recall, does include a bit about separating the fact from the fiction in his novel, but I felt I didn't really want to follow that up because I would then destroy my enjoyment of the novel and all the hard work I had put into suspending my disbelief.
