mbett (USA: MA) (2006/10/04): Quite simply one of the best fantasy novels I've ever read. If you love fantasy but feel like everything you read is starting to sound just like everything else, then you must read Kay. He's so fresh, it doesn't feel like anything else I've ever read. And this is quite possibly my favorite of Kay's novels.
I hate people who say too much about a book and spoil it, so I won't go into too much detail. But what I love about Kay is the depth of emotion, I feel the conflicts of the characters. I also love the way he draws on a specific historical milieu, in this case Renaissance Italy, but also adds elements of the fantastic. There's a large cast of charaters; but you don't ever feel lost. Every one is a individual you will either love or hate. Or sometimes both.
