I hadn't read any Martha Grimes before this, but I shall probably read more. The style is so distinctly "British Mystery" that I have a hard time believing the notes about the author stating that she's a native of Maryland. The mystery is well told and very difficult to predict. You've got to pay close attention to keep track of the large cast. It's a quick read, took me mo more than 6 or 8 hours.
