A fast-moving twelve-volume crime thriller series from a bestselling Australian author.
Reviews:
Marianne (Australia) (2012/10/01): January Conspiracy 365 is the first book in the Conspiracy 365 series by Australian author Gabrielle Lord, and her second Young Adult novel, the first being Monkey Undercover. This series is told in monthly instalments, with each month detailing the events in fifteen year old Callum Ormond’s year. On the last day of the year, Cal is given a cryptic warning by a seemingly crazy old man in the street about death and danger and something called the Ormond Singularity. Before the old man is sedated and hauled away by ambulance, he repeats his warning about needing to disappear for 365 days, and that Cal’s father Tom was killed by “them”. From there, the action in Cal’s life is non-stop action: he almost drowns in his father’s sabotaged tinny; someone breaks in and trashes the family home; he is abducted (more than once); someone attacks his uncle and sister; he is on the run from the police. There is also plenty of intrigue: a mystery virus that kills Tom; the letter from Tom mentioning something that will change history; the strange behaviour of his father’s twin, Uncle Rafe; the money withdrawn from the bank account leaving his mother penniless; the meaning of the drawings his father made in his dying weeks. The chapters are headed by dates that count down the days left to the end of the year, and the page numbers similarly count down. The ending is a real cliffhanger but thankfully, by now all 12 months have been published so the reader can start reading February without delay. A page-turner.
