Reviews: Jo (USA: CA) (2007/10/20):
A rather delightful book. Not really a keeper for me, but there were a few chapter's that kept me in stitches. My personal favorite takes place on the French Metro. I highly recommend this for someone in the right mood.

nemecio (USA: CA) (2009/03/18):
MY REAL OPNION = IT WAS THE BORNINGEST BOOK IN THE WORLD , I ONLY READ IT BECAUSE MY CRUSH RECOMENDED IT ,

Marcie M. (USA: TX) (2009/05/28):
I was looking forward to my first David Sedaris book after hearing so many good things...but unfortunately, I thought it was incredibly boring. There were a few funny parts, but it took me a few months to finish simply because I had to read it story by story.

Pat DeBolt (USA: GA) (2009/05/30):
I really dislike this book. For some reason, it was a choice of my book club. I thought Sedaris was self-absorbed, caustic and even cruel. I understand it is better in the spoken form, but I threw away my copy with relish and will never again revisit this author.

KK (USA: CA) (2010/02/14):
Some of the stories had me laughing until I was crying. Others left no impression at all.

Amanda (USA: WA) (2011/02/05):
I was so excited to get this book. A friend recommended it to me because it was apparently so funny. I couldn't even get through the second story - I didn't find any of what I read fun or even mildly entertaining. I have a toddler so if I can't get through the second chapter of a book, I don't even waste my time with it.

Marianne (Australia) (2011/08/15):
Me Talk Pretty One Day is the 6th book of collected essays by David Sedaris. In part one, Sedaris touches on speech therapy for his lisp at school, guitar lessons from a midget, inherited traits, artistic talent, sibling swearing, family pets, working as a teacher, toilet legacies, odd jobs, eating out in NYC, visitors to NYC, outward appearances, and technophobia. Part two focuses mainly on his life with his partner Hugh in France and explores travelling to France, taking French language lessons, feast days, the sex of words, Hugh’s childhood in Africa, word puzzles, movie subtitles, the behaviour of vacationing Americans, epic daydreams, food economy and IQ tests. My favourite chapter was Jesus Shaves. I tried to read this to friends but dissolved into laughter every time. Sedaris has the reader constantly smiling, chuckling, giggling and often laughing out loud. Sedaris is witty, and clever and reading his work is an unalloyed pleasure.

Kristina Martin (USA: CA) (2011/12/22):
I heard a lot of good things about this book, and finally I received a copy from a friend for my birthday a few years back. It was funny at times and I did really laugh out loud at a few moments in the book but I think because of all the hype I heard about it I was left unimpressed in the end. I much prefer his audio stuff - there are some live performances with him basically reading from this book that really had me laughing (even after I had read it). So, all in all I'd recommend you to read this but if you've heard it talked up a lot then don't be surprised if you're disappointed in the end.
